Guyana Ministry of Health hosts IDEAS lab to assess local Chagas disease vectors

Guyana is considered by WHO and PAHO as endemic for Chagas disease, but the local triatomine bug vectos have never been studied. The IDEAS lab is working with the Guyana Ministry of Health (MoH) Vector Control Services to changing this. As a start, Jenni and Alex visited Guyana last month at the invitation of the MoH to investigate the local Chagas disease vectors and lay the ground work for local triatomine bug control efforts.
They spent 10 days in Guyana, visiting the localities of Bartica (region 7) and Lethem (region 9) with MoH officials. They spent their time searching for triatomine bugs and speaking to community members.
