Finding kissing bugs

We know that finding a kissing bug in your home can be unsettling. Key points from the CDC:

  • Chagas disease is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. It spreads through contact with the feces of triatomine bugs (not their bites!), which are also called kissing bugs.

  • The early stage of Chagas disease often has mild symptoms or goes unnoticed. Chronic infection can lead to serious heart and/or digestive system issues.

  • Early diagnosis and treatment can be lifesaving. If you think you might have been exposed to the Chagas disease parasite (T. cruzi), contact a doctor. They can help you get a lab test to determine if you were exposed to T. cruzi.

Found a bug? Take these 4 steps to protect yourself:
